Metal-air battery

Catalytic materials for the oxygen evolution and reduction reactions (OER/ORR) play a vital role in the development of various energy conversion and storage devices, including water electrolysis and metal-air batteries. Noble metal-based catalysts have been primarily used for OER and ORR due to their excellent catalytic performance. The high cost and scarcity of noble metals limit their practical application in a wide range of energy solutions.

Our group is developing exsolution-based OER and ORR catalysts, which enable the formation of highly dispersed nanocatalysts with excellent thermochemical stability. The increased electrochemically active surface area  with a modified chemical composition enhances OER and ORR performance. Transition metal-based catalysts are being investigated as alternatives to traditional noble metal-based catalytic materials.
